Welcome to WNUA - Digital Broadcasting! "Deep Jazz" Around the Globe!
WNUA-DB: A Legacy of Jazz Excellence
WNUA 95.5, a trailblazing radio station in the United States, broadcast smooth jazz from 1987 to 2009. In 1999, notable on-air personalities included Ramsey Lewis, Karen Williams, Rick O'Dell, Loni Taylor, Danae Alexander, and Bill Cochran. Although WNUA is no longer on the air, WNUA-DB (Digital Broadcasting) proudly continues its jazz legacy, showcasing various forms of jazz.
The Roots of Smooth Jazz
The smooth jazz genre originated from jazz-funk, which blended African and Latin American rhythms with traditional jazz instruments in the 1970s. Jazz fusion, led by artists like Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, and Al Di Meola, paved the way for the genre's development. Although "smooth jazz" was coined in the late 1980s, its roots can be traced back to jazz-rock and jazz-funk of the mid-1970s.
